The Nijmegen-based singer-songwriter is best-known for his work with his band You Should Get To Know Us, but his solo work explores some different sonic territory.

Ralf's last release was the excellent double-single 'Stuck In My Ways / Tomorrow'. Check out the below interview that we did with Ralf and check out his music that's available at our Desert Mine shop and all good streaming sites.

1. Are you the best singer-songwriter in the Netherlands?

I only listen to The Beatles and Nirvana, they are not from the Netherlands so... I honestly wouldn't know!

2. What liquid do you like to drink before doing a vocal take?

My special recipe for airy vocals: start off with a shot cointreau on the rocks, when you feel the haze kickin in, top it off
with some yorkshire tea (don't forget a tiny bit of milk).
If that doesn't do the trick and you still want to rock big time, kick balls, you might want to wear leather trousers though.

3. Do you think that using reverb is a political act?

I occasionally drain an electric guitar in reverb, those kids love that, you know. However when putting too much reverb
on a snare or on the vocals, you might get associated with the 80s... a very poor decade for songs, so yeah.

4. Are you a mod?

Hmm, I'm just a middle class guy, raised by 60s hippies, who forced me to listen to cuby + blizzards,
5 meters below sea level. So I don't know, I guess not?

5. Are your lyrics meaningful?

I guess I try to, but if the listener decides otherwise I'm perfectly fine with that too.
If some listeners have any benefit by listening to my lyrics, then that's cool too.
Jobs'n'dogs contains a lot of songs which are just kind of protest songs. I complain about society a lot on that record.
But since then I've been trying to write in a more positive mood, hopefully this works out on my new double single as well!

6. Are you alternative, or the alternative to the alternative?

Tough question, I guess alternative means 'not mainstream'. So what you're saying here's that ralf knoflook
is 'not mainstream' among alternative bands.
Of course I would love that, being mainstream is boring! If I could choose I would be super extreme alternative.

7. Do you have any social media tips for our readers?

My top tip of the day: don't care what other people say and just do your thing!
And also: don't waste your time looking at screens, use your time to get your kicks in the real world.
Preferably by rocking out with your band on stage in front of a non-empty crowd in a crappy pub.

8. Are you getting more slack with each record that you release?

When you have to put effort in recording a song, you are not recording a song.
It has to be easy, otherwise it's no fun right!

9. How do you cope with the demands of your fanbase?

My fanbase could be empty, in which case their demands are non-existent...

10. is your solo project better than your band (you should get to know us)?

It's just different. For my solo project I record everything myself, that means, without the awesome drums of Josse and
pumpin bass of Victor. That's why you don't hear almost any drums on my ralf knoflook songs, I just can't play drums that well.
It's just kind of an acoustic stripped down thing you know. It's nice to also create something less loud, and moreover,
it's fun recording and mixing my own songs.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5822398697201649319.post-62778570204734849462021-03-05T12:03:00.001-08:002021-03-05T12:03:09.993-08:00LOVESICK PUPPIES
Get to know the dynamic Dutch duo

Fans of Desert Mine will know that we released a two-track single from Lovesick Puppies in autumn 2020. There was a notable lack of promotional effort at the time due to our debauched lifestyles, so we thought that we'd catch up with Merlijn and Victor from the band. Here are the results of our in-depth interview with Lovesick Puppies.

1. Lovesick Puppies is a side-project of You Should Get To Know Us. Do you hate the other guys in the band?

Hate is a strong term, but it's complicated. Lovesick Puppies initially formed because the other guys of YSGTKU didn't want to play some songs that we came up with. But after they heard our recent hits, they were extremely eager to join the Lovesick Puppies supergroup that we formed last summer. So all with all there is a pretty weird dynamic going on.

2. One of your songs is called ‘I’m Lucky’. After Tomorrow is the eighth solo album to be released by Sam Forrest. The ten-track record came out on Desert Mine Music on 10 July 2020.

After Tomorrow was recorded, mixed and mastered by Sam Forrest during the UK coronavirus lockdown between March and May 2020.

The album features ten tracks that take in influences ranging from Andy Shauf and Elliott Smith-inspired fingerpicked folk-pop, to Neil Young-esque panoramic dirges to upbeat country reminiscent of Buck Owens.

Recorded using analogue instrumentation with the exception of a Korg synthesiser bass, After Tomorrow features everything from a divan bed being used as a kick drum to a borrowed 1970s Hammond organ. 27 July - Berlin Artliners

Tour report: You Should Get To Know Us

We were so happy to have our van back that we decided to sit in it for the whole day. That worked out pretty well since we had quite some traffic jams on our way to Berlin. We went straight to the venue and arrived perfectly in time to set up and play. The place, Artliners, was very nice with true rock 'n roll staff.

Once again, the authorities tried to stop us from rocking: full drums were not allowed. We did a mellow set with some softer songs that were very well received. Josse totally aced the stripped down drumkit and invented new rhythms on the spot. We played some classics from the past like 'In The Universe' and 'Everything=Nothing'. Merlijn announced quite dry that the last song was a dancing song and to our surprise some people went to it.

Drove back to the hostel in a very badass neighbourhood and had beers in the hostel bar. We gave the guys from cowgirl all CDs of our oeuvre and got cool cowgirl shirts in return. Hostel room was clean but sauna-temperature. We evaporated during the night but were brought back alive the next day by lots of coffee.
It was a great tour. Big thanks to the guys of Cowgirl, we had a blast. Also thanks to all people at Desert Mine Music that kept you updated about our very interesting lives. To be continued...

Tour report: Cowgirl (Sam)

The final day of the tour! We figured it would be best not to push our luck any further in Krakow, so for that reason and the fact that we were playing in Berlin that night, we left. It was a long drive, 9 hours man. The air conditioning chose a convenient day to stop working, just eight sweaty dudes in a van. Over the last couple of days Tom had adopted the 'topless in the van' rule and today he had company in Josse who also chose to 'go back to basics' and show off his sculpted torso.
It wasn't long before we were stuck in a huge traffic jam. Cars were stationary for as far as the eye could see. Everybody was outside of their cars wandering around and stretching their legs. But, nothing lasts and the good ship rock sailed on.

Time was looking tight for our gig but Berlin law required us to purchase a sticker for the van, a congestion charge kind of vibe. But, there was no time, we had a rock show to play and fans to please. Natural born rebels, we had again, been caught on the wrong side of the law.
Rocked up to the venue and loaded our gear into the bar. A mural of Lemmy graced the wall of the bar, however the proportions were a little off and he looked like his legs were two foot long. God bless you little leg Lemmy!

It was nice to catch up with friends who were either visiting or living in Berlin. YSGTKU played another knock-out set on what was without doubt the smallest stage I've ever seen. Next up it was Cowgirl's turn, good atmosphere and a text book set. Shout out to Ted for the tequilas!
After the gig we loaded our stuff back into the van as we still needed to check into our hostel.

I thanked the barman for having us play and the only two words he uttered were 'Henry Rollins'. 'Huh?' I responded, 'Henry Rollins' he repeated. 'Henry Rollins?' I said. 'Henry Rollins' he repeated. 'Yeah, I like Henry Rollins' I replied. And I walked off bemused then realised I don't actually like Henry Rollins.

Danny went rogue and went off to some bars with his cousin, Eddy. The rest of us checked into the hostel and had some beers and some shots. Jack, Tom and myself (Sam) had to get up at 6am to fly back to the UK so I am currently writing this on two hours sleep. The other guys carry the torch of rock for another few days, potentially playing a show in Nijmegen but definitely having some fun.
Over the last week there have been overwhelming highs and there have been Earth shattering lows but one thing I'm sure we can all agree on, is we blew the roof off that mother fucker. Over & out.
27 July - Krakow Scena Supernova

Tour report - Cowgirl (Sam)

Slept in late feeling a little funky. A bloody Mary and some pickled herring later, back in the game. All having a nice time having a drink in a beer garden when we realised the parking ticket had expired. Tom and Victor popped back to put some more money in the machine.

Carried on our business when we received a distressed call from Tom.
DISASTER!
'The van has gone!'
What the fuck
'Yeah it's not there'
We all rushed over. And yes. It was gone. Some kind people helped us call the police and the parking guys to figure out whether we had been towed or whether it had been...stolen.

Tom spoke to somebody from the parking department who confirmed they did not have our van and that they don't tow. Uh oh...
Ran over to the cafe opposite to ask if they had seen anything and a nice guy informed us that he had seen it getting towed 20 minutes ago. I've never been so happy to find out a vehicle has been towed!

Thus begins a day of relentless ball breaking.
Danny, Roy and Victor tried to get a taxi to the outskirts of Krakow to pick the van up and pay the fee.
It appears that taxi drivers in Krakow don't actually want to be taxi drivers and nobody would take them. Roy started to ask passers by if they would take them and temptingly fanned money as cars drove past.
Eventually a 'legend' taxi driver stopped to pick them up.

When they arrived at their destination they were informed that the van was at the complete opposite side of Krakow and they had to pay the fine and show the vehicles documents before they were allowed to go pick it up.
Unfortunately for our heroes, the documents required were in the van itself, locked up, at the other side of Krakow. They sweet talked the taxi driver into ferrying them around and waiting for them as they continued in their quest.
Four hours and four taxi rides later and $250 lighter, our baby was back where she belonged.

Our crusaders returned and we loaded up our shit, ready to grab Krakow by the balls and blow the roof off this mother fucker.
Dropped the gear off at the venue. Got some food at a restaurant around the corner and Merlijn ordered the same meal twice in a row. Respect.

Got back to the venue to set up and soundcheck. It was an interesting place. Kind of a community space complete with theatre seating. Pretty makeshift affair. Some interesting power issues, everyone kept getting electric shocks from the microphones and crazy rumbling feedback would intermittently interrupt songs.
Played our set and people seemed to dig it. Kept thinking we were all going to get electrocuted any minute.

YSGTKU played a blinder and returned for an encore as a Polish super fan proceeded to lose his mind over the heavy duty rock and roll he was gleefully ingesting.
We got paid 20 zloty and after deductions for beers we'd bought we came out with a cool profit of 5 zloty (1 British pound). Thank you Krakow you redeemed yourself.

Tour report - You Should Get To Know Us (Ralf)

Our day started lovely, we were sat in a beautiful beer garden. All was quiet and peaceful, there was a nice breeze and Sam was drinking his regular Bloody Mary at 10 o clock in the morning. All of a sudden some disturbing news came to light. Thom found out our van was gone!

The boys of YSGTKU and Cowgirl entered a confusing twilight zone: was the van stolen or towed away? All of the boys? No, Merlijn just chose the right moment to go solo and went to the contemporary art museum. The confusion ended when a police car stopped and a police woman told us the inconvenient truth about our van. It was towed away because we were parked at a disabled spot. We were demanded to pay 500 slotti cash directly to the police woman. Of course, after the massive turn up at their last gigs, giving the boys a big pay out, the money was rolling right in. Not a problem at all.

Danny, Roy and Victor left the group to go by taxi to the police station at the border of the city. When we got there, we were told to go and get the car papers. However the papers were in the van, which was parked by the police in a lot at the other side of the city. We called a cab, but none were available. We tried pulling over one, but no cab driver was in the mood to pick us up. We talked to people on the streets, but no one could help us.
In the meantime Merlijn was witnessing an almost equally disturbing scene in the museum at the exhibition about ecological apocalypse.

Back to the crime scene.
Just when all hope was gone. Roy in a last attempt, was about to play his last card. In this case, the card was money. More particular: Roy was waving around a 100 slotti note in the air. Super effective! As sent by god, the legendary cab driver of Krakau appeared. He took the boys to a shady parking lot at a grimy shithole. Victor got the car papers, in the meantime, Roy was persuading the legendary cab driver to stick around and team up with this group of disabled parking rock stars. He agreed and brought us back to the station, after filling in some forms, we were asked to pay 490 slotti to the police. Since we only had notes for 500 slotti, we were willing to tip 10 slotti, the regular 2 %, in order to thank the police for parking our car. The police refused our tip. Then, the legendary cab driver once again saved the day by breaking down a 100 slotti note. Letting us pay the precise 490!

We went back to the parking lot again. After a guy was inspecting Victor's passport for too long, we were allowed to take the van. We were free men again, survivors of a dirty war.
In the meantime, Merlijn was having still having a blast at the art museum and the surrounding hipster neighbourhood.
After all the day ended well. As they say, the show must go on. And that is exactly what our boys did. They treated the Szena Supernova to some liedjes. Popping out those slacker songs like nothing happened... true heroes. The end.
25 July - Budapest to Krakow

Tour report - Cowgirl (Sam)

We loaded up the gear and Victor did some incredible manoeuvring to get the van out of the multi-story car park. Miraculously springing the van free from an impossible trap. Shout out to Jack who sprinted about 6K to bring us the parking ticket without breaking a sweat.

Drove the length of Slovakia into Poland. That was one beautiful drive. Shout out to the Slovakian landscape.
Touched down in Krakow and checked in.
Got on it like a scotch bonnet.

Everyone seemed to want to invite us to strip clubs.
We went to a karaoke bar but unfortunately the list was full and Krakow missed out on what could have been a stirring rendition of Twist and Shout.

Josse messed up the exchange rate and accidentally withdrew $250 for one night. He treated us to a kebab, Danny gave it 8.5/10 but for me the chili sauce didn't deliver and thus, I could only give it a 6.5/10. All in all, it was a great night. Thanks Krakow!

Tour report - You Should Get To Know Us (Merlijn and Roy)

For breakfast we had Marco's pizza again. Some guys went to get the van from the parking but forgot the ticket. Jack took a sprint to bring the ticket and was therefore the hero of day.

Long, but nice, drive to Krakow straight through the Slovakian mountains. In the van, Thom convinced Josse to become a comic illustrator.

In Krakow, we had amazing Indian food. Next, we went to the centre and saw the tourists walk the march of capitalism. Another episode of open-air museum Europe. Only Polish people around were good-looking youth that tried to seduce you to join their pubcrawl. Our British friends suffered from their own politeness and spent most of the evening talking to the people that approached them. We, tough Dutch guys, just ignored the shit of them. Sick of our own consumerism we bought nothing and went to bed early.

Tour report - Cowgirl

After the previous night's drama the boys needed to unwind and make sure they were in peak physical condition for the rock show later that evening. Most of the guys went to the thermal baths to unwind and get some well needed pampering.

We checked into a new apartment, aptly named 'The House of Rock'. And boy did it rock. Rock posters of our favourite bands adorned the walls: Led Zeppelin, Linkin Park, AC/DC. On the way to checking in Sam walked through a film set, two men wearing balaclavas, sticking up a car with AK47s. Look out for him on the big screen next year.

The evening's gig was at a bar/ tattoo parlour. We had been told Iggy Pop was playing in town which obviously impacted on audience attendance. We played to a total of four people, they were all Dutch and seemed pretty into what we were doing. One of them accused us of doing a U2 cover but apart from that he seemed alright.
It was a hot and sweaty affair and everything was played at pretty much half tempo. YSGTKU rocked hard and did an exquisite cover of September Girls sending the crowd into a frenzy.

The taxi driver on the journey back to the hostel was an absolute warrior. Danny asked him why he had two pairs of drum sticks on the dashboard. He preceded to blare out heavy metal and shred on his steering wheel, also handing Danny a pair for an impromptu jam session.
On arriving back to the apartment, Danny and Josse got trapped in the lift between two floors almost derailing the whole tour.

We met an Italian guy called Marco who owned a pizza joint. He had been on Master Chef and cooked an insane pesto lasagna. Thank you Marco. You are a good man.
A Lemmy poster on our apartment wall summed everything up: 49% mother fucker, 51% son of a bitch. And with that, we felt like we were in safe hands, our guardian angel watching over us. RIP Lemmy. Shine on you crazy diamond.

Tour report - You Should Get To Know Us

No massive turn out, but a MASSIVE TURN LOUD. Woke up in the Hilton this morning, feeling fabulous and alive. Ralf and Merlijn were very glad to hear that Josse and Victor were not bitten by the bed bugs.
Spent the afternoon in a bathing house. Had a great time, it was a total chill-out.

Went to the venue, a bar + tattooshop. The basement stage looked very nice. Unfortunately, there were no people there when the bands started. We played first and our songs were very well received by the 4-men audience (the guys from Cowgirl). We consistently referred to our audience by saying 'hey Budapest'. Last song, upon request, was a Big Star cover, September Gurls.
Cowgirl, again, proved to be a real fan-magnet, as their music was able to tempt 2 persons to enter the basement for some (short) time. The female half of the 2-people audience promised to totally check them out.

When Cowgirl started their last song, they were again stuck with only YSGTKU as their audience. Victor, Merlijn and Josse started jumping around the basement. Sam from Cowgirl dived into the audience. Ralf accused Cowgirl of playing a U2 cover as last song, putting the relationship between both bands on the edge.

We took the stuff in a taxi to our new accommodation 'the House of Rock', which was great. Taxi driver turned out to be a big rock fan, pumping out classic rock from the speakers and drumming along (with drumsticks on the steering wheel) while driving. Very cool.
At the end of the evening we had a pizza from our new friend Marco, who was in Masterchef Italy. We went to bed early and slept really well. No bugs this time. Now on the way to Krakow.
Going on tour means that bands have to travel huge distances to entertain their loyal fanbases. So far, both Cowgirl and You Should Get To Know us have managed to rock Dresden, destroy Prague and had a nice time. Find out how they got to their next destination in their exciting tour diary below.
23 July - Prague to Budapest (travel day)

Tour report - You Should Get To Know Us

Yesterday we drove from Prague to Budapest. Victor and Josse did amazing jobs driving in small parking garages. Went out in Budapest for a beer and two guys came up to us, telling that they saw us play in Prague. One was wearing a YSGTKU button on his purse. It remains unclear whether these fans intentionally followed their new favourite slackrock band...

We played some table football and went home, only to discover that there were bed bugs in our room. Some of the guys didn't care and just slept in the room together with their new tiny friends. Luckily, they were not bitten. The true divas of both bands went to the Hilton hotel and had a splendid night surrounded by luxury. We abandoned the shit hostel and booked for tonight an apartment called 'House of Rock', a place where we belong. Excited to rock again tonight.

Tour report - Cowgirl (Sam)

TRIGGER WARNING: BED BUG HELL.
Cruised into Budapest in the blazing sun. Spirits were high and it seemed like nothing could bring us down. A couple of bands rocking it and living la vida loco. It was another day off, we work hard, we play hard.

Checked into the hostel, got some food, got some beers. Victor kicked my ass on table football. The tequilas and white Russians were flowing.
A pub crawl arrived and not one, not two, but three Cowgirl and YSGTKU fans who'd caught our infamous Prague show came over say hi to the guys. We posed for photos and signed albums then thought it might be fun to tag along.

The pub crawl seemed pretty unorganised and within a couple of minutes the group was separated from its guide. Our hero, Josse bluffed that he was in fact the tour guide and before long we had 20 drunk tourists following us. The Pide Piper of Njimegen.

While planning our next drinking hole we received a distressed call from Tom and Jack who had returned to the hostel earlier. That's right. We had BED BUGS. It was 4am so our options were limited. Josse called some other hostels but no room at the inn. Jack and Victor gave zero fucks and were already tucked up with their little parasitic friends. Danny opted to sleep in the van. Josse reluctantly bedded down for the night while myself, Tom, Merlyn and Roy got ourselves a couple of rooms at The Hilton. Living the high life.

As we tucked ourselves into our crisp sheets and our heads sunk into the fluffy pillows we couldn't help but think of our comrades. Taking one for the team in an infested hostel and an over heated van in a multistory car park. True rockers. And for that we salute them.

23 July - Prague (day off)

Tour report from You Should Get to Know Us

We had a resting day yesterday. Went out in casual outfits according to the latest trends in modern fashion. It was difficult to move around in the city because the streets were filled with our Czech fanbase. However, they could also have been just tourists.

We also climbed a beautiful hill in Prague. It reminded us of carrying our heavy loads up to the top of the Dutch music industry. We went to a medieval restaurant and Josse managed to order an amount food that was heavier than his body weight. We waited until he digested it and then went to bed. It was a nice day.

Tour report from Cowgirl

Day off. Lie in. Had a long stroll, took in the sights. Ate double our body weight in carbohydrates. Shout out to Josse for a mad meal choice: goulash to start then risotto with a side of roast potatoes and a pot of roast veg. Early night. All round nice day.
22 July - Prague Vzorkovna

Tour report from You Should Get To Know Us

Well yesterday was super weird. We played in a dungeon in the old town of Prague. There were chains hanging from the ceiling and there was very scary music. At first we were scared that there was gonna be a tough-guy audience performing very violent moshpits, but luckily most visitors were mostly harmless American tourists. The soundguy wanted us to plug in guitars directly into the PA instead of the amps, resulting in a conflict that lasted all night until Danny at one point plugged into the PA and blew up a speaker. But more about that later.

First we, YSGTKU, played a selection of our hits. American girls requested us to play Happy Birthday but we did not know how to play that song. Then, Cowgirl played until a string broke. Then, we played again because the sound guy wanted us to play until late. After the show, a wild rapper appeared and the place turned into a hip-hop club. Josse was feeling very happy and initiated a jam with the rapper and, among others, Victor and Danny.

Then, all kinds of narcissistic pricks started to go up stage and try to have their moment of fame. Danny, meanwhile, accommodated to the needs of the soundguy and plugged his guitar into the PA, blowing up the speaker. The whole thing ended when the rapper, who had disappeared, climbed up the stage screaming 'stop the music, stop the music, no disrespect, let's play some music'. It reminded us of Kanye West climbing up stage and stopping the shows at the VMA awards. It was a celebrative ending of the evening.

Tour report from Cowgirl

Well. Last night was interesting. Arrived at the venue at the arranged load in time only to be told that we had to come back later because all the staff were too hungover. When we finally did load in we realised we were basically loading into a dungeon, complete with chains hanging from the ceiling and a sex swing above the stage. Sound guy was a weird dude with a dog that followed him wherever he went. Did the usual job of constantly telling everyone to turn down. Highlight of the night was Danny, Victor and a couple of randomers backing up a rapper and constantly being told my a guy in a baseball cap to play more reggae. The Velvet Underground jams weren't to the rappers liking and he abruptly ordered the band to 'stop the music' because it wasn't the 'right kind of music'. The guitars came off and we shipped out. Full diva. Fuck that guy. At least Danny blew the left hand speaker. See ya suckers.

Audience attendance: 50 maximum
Tour report from You Should Get To Know Us

We left very late because of slacker stuff but were at Mondfisch at 8. The British people were eating a lot of crisps in the van. Cowgirl started and some people came in to listen and then left later again because it was insanely loud. Then we played with little audience until it started raining outside, which was nice. Next, we got drunk and ate falafel. Overall, it was a very predictable day. Cheers!
Tour report from Cowgirl

Veni vidi vici. Day 1 on the road with YSGTKU. It's been a hot one. Shout out to Franz at the Mondfisch, he was a good guy and we enjoyed his signature 'The Franz' shot. Smouldering sets by both bands. Disappointing kebab game. Good bread and substantial amount of meat but lacking in sauce and salad. 6/10. It was a dry boy.
Interesting and frequent bowel movements this morning. The sun's out and we're in the van heading to tonight's show in Prague. The air con is flowing and the tunes are pumping.
A man shouted loudly at the end of last night's set 'Who are you?!'. We responded 'We are Cowgirl'. That we are. That we are.
Jobs 'n Dogs is the first solo EP to be released by Dutch singer-songwriter Ralf Knoflook. The six-track EP was recorded by Ralf at his home in Nijmegen, and is a world away from his work with the noisy indie rock band You Should Get To Know Us. Instead the EP features atmospheric tracks like the accordian-led The Road that recalls the likes of Iron and Wine and the Elliott Smith-influenced lo-fi groove of World of Stone.
Jobs 'n Dogs is available on CD at the Desert Mine shop, or at Liedjescollectief, and can be streamed at all of the standard live streaming services.

Since the start of 2019, we've been releasing some singles by the acclaimed garage rock duo - Cowgirl. From the primitive J.A.M.C cruise of She Picks Me Up to the Brian Jonestown-esque boogie of You're Not There, Cowgirl have shown that they are way more fun than most rock bands.

Their latest track, Different Ways, showcases the band's poppier side and has already been picking up some rave reviews. The song is available to download from the Desert Mine shop and can be streamed from all regular streaming sites. Check out the video for Different Ways below.

You Should Get To Know Us will be releasing their debut album, Hole In Whatever, through Desert Mine and Liedjescollectief on 19 January 2019. The twelve-track album was produced by Sam Forrest (Nine Black Alps) and features guest backing vocals from Hayley Hutchinson (The Sorry Kisses).

The Dutch indie rock band recorded the album in just one week during Summer 2018. Sessions took place at Crooked Room Studios and Granny Flat Studios near York, UK in the midst of a successful tour of Northern England.

Hole In Whatever features the brand's trademark slack-pop sounds, but broadens the sonic palette to take in influences ranging from the low-down acoustic boogie of My Baby to the ramshackle indie rock of Happily Misused. Whether it's the emotionally fraught drama of When You're Gone or the intricate songcraft of Pie, Hole In Whatever represents a big step up in the sonics of the Nijmegen-based band and has already been receiving rave reviews in the Dutch press.
